Free screening of the People's Emergency Briefing climate film at Bournemouth Pavilion on Tuesday 20 October, 6pm to 8pm, then a panel Q&A. Ages 16 and over.

A free screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing, a new film on the climate and nature crisis, is coming to The Pavilion in Bournemouth on Tuesday 20 October at 6pm. Dorset Wildlife Trust, which is hosting it, says everyone is welcome and residents from across Dorset are invited. Seats are free but booked in advance through BCP Council’s Ticket Tailor page.

The trust is putting the night on with Dorset Chamber, BCP Council and Transition Town Poole, and Lush is sponsoring it. After the film, a panel will talk through what it covers and then take questions from the audience.

What the film is

According to the organisers, the film brings together leading UK experts to explain “in clear and accessible terms, what the latest science says about the climate and nature crisis, how it is already affecting people’s lives, and what can still be done.”

They describe it as an evidence-based overview rather than a political or campaigning film, with specialists covering climate science, food systems, health, economics, national security and extreme weather. BCP Council’s booking page frames the evening around one question: “How prepared is our community for the challenges ahead?”

Who is on the panel

Three people will lead the discussion after the screening:

  • Brian Bleese, chief executive of Dorset Wildlife Trust
  • Darren Langdown of Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service
  • Julia Davies of We Have The POWER

Brian Bleese said: “Whatever your perspective on these issues, this event is an opportunity to hear from leading experts and join an open discussion with others from across our community. The People’s Emergency Briefing presents the latest scientific evidence in a clear and accessible way, helping people understand how climate change and nature loss are already affecting our lives here in Dorset and beyond.

“We hope this will be the start of a positive and inclusive conversation about Dorset’s future and how we can respond to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

According to the booking page, the Q&A is a chance to talk about “what it all may mean for our businesses, families and our communities”, and to discuss “how we can work together to build a more resilient and prepared community”.

Not a campaign event

The organisers stress that this is not a campaign event. No prior knowledge of climate or environmental issues is needed, and they are asking people to “come along with an open mind and take part in the discussion”. The screening is for people aged 16 and over.
