130 companies registered in the Dorset Council area from 27 Sept to 10 Oct, from a Dorchester coffee roastery to Weymouth boat charters, plus one liquidation.

At least 130 new companies with a registered office in the Dorset Council area were set up between Sunday 27 September and Saturday 10 October. That is according to Companies House records we read on 11 October.

Most will never have a shopfront. But a handful look like new places to eat, drink, get a haircut or go out on the water, and those are listed first.

A company record shows that a business has been registered, not that it is trading. Each name below links to its public record.

The chart is not a map of new firms on the high street. Two addresses account for 51 of the 130:

  • 36 companies share one Lytchett Matravers postcode, BH16 6FA.
  • 15 share one Ferndown postcode, BH21 7SB.

When dozens of new companies give the same address in a fortnight, it is usually an accountant’s or a formation agent’s registered office service. It does not mean 36 businesses have opened in Lytchett Matravers.

Leave those two addresses out and 79 companies remain. By declared activity, the largest groups are retail, online selling and motor trades (12), the building trades (8), holding companies (8), property and lettings (7), food and drink (6) and IT and software (6). The rest are a spread of consultancy, health, media and other services.

Closures

One Dorset firm went into liquidation in the fortnight.

  • Performance Climate Systems Limited, 24 Cornwall Road, Dorchester. Its members passed a resolution on 5 October to wind the company up voluntarily, saying it could not continue “by reason of its liabilities”. Joint liquidators from Verulam Advisory of St Albans were appointed. Its Companies House record lists its business as management consultancy.

Three other Gazette notices in the same feed matched “Dorchester” or “Weymouth” by name but are not Dorset businesses: a Cornish pub company, an Isle of Man company, and a London property company on Weymouth Mews.

How we compiled this

We searched Companies House by registered office town for 20 Dorset towns and villages, with incorporation dates from 27 September to 10 October 2026. We then checked every postcode with postcodes.io and kept only those in the Dorset Council area. Firms registered in Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole are BCP Council and are not counted.

A search by town can miss a company whose address names only a hamlet, so treat 130 as a floor. Company names that are a person’s own name are counted but not listed.
