Easton Methodist Church holds a quiz at 6.30pm on Saturday 31 October, £5 a head in teams of four, then Portland carols at 3pm on 3 December, for the appeal.

Easton Methodist Church is holding a quiz night on Saturday 31 October, one of two fundraisers for its heritage appeal before Christmas. The second is a Portland carol service on Thursday 3 December at 3pm.

Both are in aid of the appeal the church launched in September to pay for repairs to its Grade II* building on Easton Square. We covered the launch of that appeal at the time: the church says a five-yearly inspection found parts of the building are no longer fully watertight, and its fundraising page sets a target of £1m.

The quiz: Saturday 31 October

  • Where: Easton Methodist Church, Easton Square, Portland DT5 2AL
  • Time: 6pm for a 6.30pm start
  • Cost: £5 per person
  • Teams: of four

That is Halloween night, so if you would rather spend it indoors with a pen than on the doorstep, this is the option on the island. The church has not said whether you need to book a table, so if you are bringing a full team it is worth asking first: general enquiries go to office@eastonmethodist.co.uk.

Two dates for the Easton Methodist Church heritage appeal: a quiz night at the church on Saturday 31 October, 6pm for a 6.30pm start, £5 per person in teams of four; and a Portland carol service on Thursday 3 December at 3pm, by donation

The carol service: Thursday 3 December

The Portland carol service starts at 3pm on Thursday 3 December. There is no ticket price: it is by donation, with the money going to the appeal.

The church has not yet said where on Portland the service will be held. We will add the venue here when it does.

What it means for you

If you live on Portland, these are two of the easier ways to put money towards a building that more than twenty groups use each week, from the Pop Up Larder to Tea and Toast and the coffee mornings. A team of four at the quiz puts £20 into the appeal before the first question, and the carols cost whatever you choose to give.

If you would rather give directly, the church takes donations through its SumUp donation page, the link its fundraising page points to.
